Rogue Jesusfish

I’ve been messing around with Google Sketchup for a couple of years now. I’ve never made anything particularly interesting, (or more to the point, worth showing anybody,) but I still enjoy going back to it every couple of months.

Of late, I’ve spent spare class time sketching out a mansion on graph paper.  To be fair, it started out as a room. A friend of mine recently bought a house, and after seeing the two bedrooms he was renting out for the first time, I went back to school wishing I could move in.  As money is a bit tight, and as I have a perfectly functional home to stay in for free, claiming a room is somewhat out of the realm of possibility right now.

This knowledge just led to me trying to figure out how I would lay out stuff if Idid have a room. I’ve always really enjoyed this sort of thing. Whether it’s  laying out desks in a room or laying out rooms in a building. I don’t know that I’m especially good at it, but it’s fun, and a good thing to devote the wandering bit of attention I always have during classes.

So anyway, I started laying out this room, and then this mansion on paper, and yesterday I started trying to work out how actual measurements.

I made a couple of different things, but the model I’m happiest with so far is my desk. save for the board holding the roll-out keyboard tray, It’s more or less accurate, I think.  Since I’m currently in Chicagoland, and my desk is in Saint Louis, I had to fake the measurements.
I basically just did searches for “computer desk”, found one that looked about the same size as mine, and took the measurements for my own. I then added on the side little side bit, guessing at the relative size compared to the front part of the desk.
(The shelf in the middle of the actual desk is missing at the moment, but I’m hopeful that it will turn up one of these days.)
