Glee's Extroadinary Merry Christmas
I should start this off by saying that as a person who works in a store during the holidays, I am almost contractually obliged to hate christmas music. As a result, an episode of Glee in which they sing nothing but christmas music is a pretty bitter pill to swallow. With that out of the way however, here are a few of the things that I noticed while watching.
-The New Directions is constantly...

What I love about Community's "Regional Holiday...
Upon re-watching season 3’s christmas episode, these are a few of my favourite things.
-Mr. Rad seems to be the only person on the same wavelength as the Dean in the entire series, and watching them interact is priceless.
-Abed’s confused, (but still perfectly in rhythm,) query about the piano continuing to play without Mr. Rad’s input. (Also entertaining: Abed’s...

Lucasarts
Apparently the president of Lucasarts, Darrel Rodriguez is not the president of Lucasarts anymore. No word on why, but this is potentially very sad.
Why?
because Darrel Rodriguez is the man responsible for making possible all of the recent, (and awesome) Monkey Island games. The special edition of the Secret of Monkey Island, Tales of Monkey Island, and soon the special edition of Monkey...

Kotaku and Treyarch
Kotaku just put up an article entitled What Has Treyarch Done for Call of Duty?.
It’s an made for the sole purpose of pissing over all of Treyarch’s Call of Duty games. I can’t understand why this was necessary. I could see perhaps bringing up the quality of their work when a new game is announced, and certainly in a review, but an editorial hinged entirely on how they make...

Art
I should start off by pointing out that the I don’t currently have a solid definition for ‘art’ and everytime I come up with one that I like It tends to be fairly different than the previous one, with the exception being that they all containt the following caveat: art encompasses pretty much everything. I think that’s probably for the better. The general consensus is...

credit roll
I haven’t been following the Infinity Ward and Activision’s giant knife-fight-on-the-internet break up as closely recently as I had been when it first started, but this is a pretty good indicator of the state of things, I think: PC Gamer took the credits from Modern Warfare two, and removed everyone who is no longer working for Activision.

A to-read list
Here are a number of articles that will surely be very interesting to read, should I ever manage to find the time to read them.
the Experience Points blog is doing a series of articles on Mass Effect 2. specifically the politics therein. So far, they’ve written up pieces on Salarian and Quarian politics. Having just finished my first playthrough of the game last night, I’m...

Harvest Moon 64
Harvest Moon 64 was a game I rented entirely after reading about it in an issue of Nintendo Power. The premise was fairly simple- you’re some kid taking over his grandfather’s old farm, trying to revitalize it, and making friends with the townspeople in the meantime. There’s no shortage of things to do, from taking care of your crops, to taking care of your animals, to...

Greatest Hits
In no particular order.
One Time, we got up at an ungodly hour of the morning, before school. It was pitch black and very cold. For no reason other than that it was unusual, we piled in to a car and drove to the nearest Denny’s. We sat and talked and laughed and sang, and ate food. When we had all paid, we squeezed back into the car, drove back to Olympus, and slept.
Another time, we...

Another Collection of Random Links
Hello. Links!
Jorge Garcia (LOST’s Hurley) has a blog, Dispatches from the Island, and has for some time. Recently, he’s linked to a couple of interesting things, including everything Hurley Said in Season 5, some awesome, awesome fan posters, the Podcast he and his girlfriend have started in which they discuss the script for each episode, (no spoilers, if you’ve watched...

Ubisoft's DRM shackles
Ubisoft recently announced that most (all?) of its upcoming games for the PC will require you to be connected to the internet at all times. All saved games will be stored on their servers, with the effect that, if you are away the internet, for any reason, you don’t get to play whatever Ubi title you’ve been pouring hours in to. You get to start over. (actually, the article...

on the arguably-less-meaningful spectrum, I’m thankful for all of the podcasts that keep me company when I’m alone: Rebel FM, the Giant Bombcast and Mobcast, the occasional RPS Electronic Wireless Show, and of course 120 minutes of not monotony with Jick and whomever.
I’m thankful for the people responsible for writing clever, amusing, meaningful things on the internet: Rock...

Today, I'm angry at college.
This has bothered me for a while now: Why is it an accepted practice to pay people absurd amounts of money, so that they can tell you to go buy a (ridiculously expensive) book, take it home, read it, and come back to have them grade you on it? fuck college. To be clear: I’m not trying to argue the importance of homework. What really pisses me off is making me buy a book, making me read...

Wot I'm Reading 9/04/09
These unread and unwatched tabs keep piling up in Firefox windows of every single computer I own. (All two of them).
Let’s clear them now, then, shall we?
First of all, If you’re a fan of Nathan Fillion, you probably already know about Castle. It’s a TV show in which Fillion plays Richard Castle, a famous mystery writer from New York, who, through the events of the first...

Shadow Complex: as complex or as simple as you...
Shadow Complex is a game that is pretty awesome, I’m told. I don’t know much more about it than that it is based on the metroidvania style of exploration-based gameplay. Which does sound awesome. Oh, and that it was based on the novel Empire, by Orson Scott Card, which could be awesome. I haven’t read anything by him other than his Enderverse books, 2 of them being my favorite...

Wot I'm Reading: 9/1/09
I just realized that I have three different windows of Firefox open, each with multiple tabs. here’s a look at some of the interesting stuff the internet has spewed at me recently:
This popped up on the Bitmob Mobfeed recently, and is full of some really good ideas, (eliminate grinding, insure actual storytelling) and some that I consider to be less good. (screw voice acting, everything...

Not Racism, and some other things that also...
First of all, this is what set me off.
It’s an article about racism in video games. Supposedley. Except that really it’s an article about racism, whether or not it’s too soon to reference a city that housed a natural disaster, and whether or not you should get to play both sides of a war.
So let’s start with racism.
“…One of the games that comes to mind is...

Mission Impossible Facebook
Zach Weiner of Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal recently linked to Jason Axinn, who is responsible for Mission Impossible Facebook. Which contains enough references to the passing fads in Facebook (I’m not linking to that, See if you can find it yourself,) to be pretty damned funny.
Cracked.Com
Cracked.com is fast becoming my new favorite. Why? Because of writing like this:
So, here is the list of things we need to understand based on Kanye’s statements…
A) Kanye West genuinely thinks he suffers from an undiagnosed form of Tourette’s; B) Kanye West thinks Tourette’s syndrome is when you accidentally speak the truth in the heat of the moment; C) Kanye West believes that people will...

Bingo.
Perhaps the biggest criticism of the original Mass Effect was the paucity of exploration on non-plot-critical planets. Again none was shown, but we’re promised that this has been overhauled, and that all planets will now be completely unique, and far more interesting to poke around.
-Rock Paper Shotgun
Thank you, Mass Effect team. That’s all I needed to know. My faith is restored.

Sequel: what is and what isn't.
I just read this post on Kotaku, about how 90% of the levels in Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be brand new, with the rest being retreads of old levels, with new objectives.
When did this become acceptable? Why is shipping a brand new game, (because that’s what a sequel is,) with levels from it’s predecessor okay? If the game isn’t brand new, or doesn’t have enough new stuff...
MONKEY ISLAND IS COMING BACK!
I think I may have just shit a brick. Monkey Island, one of the best things that this universe has ever offered anyone, is returning. IN TWO FORMS!
Telltale Games is making a 5-part series, to be released in June.
Lucasarts, meanwhile, has remade the original Secret of Monkey Island, with new graphics and voices.
By new voices, I mean old voices. Like Domonic Armato’s voice. The voice...

Oh wikihow…
-Before you spy on someone, make sure that the reason you’re spying on them makes sense. If it’s because they don’t have any friends, don’t spy on them, if they are friends with everyone, maybe you should spy.

Self Defense Research
Not at all what I had in mind when I searched for ‘baton’, but almost as good:
http://www.bnd.com/430/story/750587.html
My interest in learning how to effectively use an expandable baton has been renewed as of yesterday. Sadly, it would appear as though such a thing is illegal in missouri. Which saddens me. I refuse to not have some sort of defensive option on late night walks, so...

music covers
I love covers of stuff. I love acoustic versions of stuff. Put simply, I love hearing alternate versions of songs. The other day, My friend reminded me of an awesome acoustic cover of Hey Ya (originally by Outkast) done by some guy named Mat Weedle, who apparently normally performs with the band Obadiah Parker. I had heard it a couple of times on The bi-weekly radio KoL broadcasts by the devs...

Writing, and why it happens everywhere but here.
Why the lack of updates?
Because I have been working on a number of other things.
Chief among them is a story that I’ve been writing, based on ideas for a game that I won’t ever develop. All of my nice writing has been focused into putting my (nearly countless) ideas in to pretty collections of words.
In addition to that, I’ve been catching up on schoolwork. That’s...

amusing voice-overs
Remember Myster Science Theatre 3000?
Remember how great that was?
Well, a couple of months ago, The Escapist started a new video collumn called ‘unskippable’, which is the same basic premise: the (long) opening movie of a game, with 2 people talking over it, in humerous ways.
I was entirely prepared for this to be not at all funny, because I’ve had it in my head for a long...

tumblr, blogspot, and other bits and bobs
After seeing google friend connect in action tonight, I was just about ready to jump ship to Blogspot. Sadly, for some reason, Tumblr is unable to export or import blogs, and is unable to utilize google friend connect at all. If I wanted to make it work, I’d have to get a domain name (something that I have, admittedely, been considering doing) and a hosting plan or a dedicated server,...
